São Paulo – The fair of the defense sector Idex, held this week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, had a turnover of US$ 5 billion. The amount is the biggest since the creation of the exhibition in the 90s. The information was provided by the website of the newspaper Gulf News, from Dubai.
The biggest deal was closed Thursday (26th), the last day of the event, and it was an order placed by the UAE air force of two Boeing military aircraft, estimated in US$ 618.8 million.
“It’s the biggest [deal value] since we started Idex. And that falls along our growth plans”, declared major-general Obaid Al Ketbi, president of Idex’s organizing committee, according to the newspaper’s website.
According to information released by the fair’s organization released by the Gulf News, this year Idex had more than 100,000 visitors and 50% of its space for next edition is already booked. The fair is biennial.
“There’s been a huge interest from the companies to participate in the event. Idex has become a huge platform for the defense industry”, said Ketbi to the Gulf News;
This edition of the fair had the participation of Brazilian companies in a stand organized by the Brazilian Defense and Security Industries Association (Abimde) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
The national companies attending this stand were Bombas Triglau, CBC, Novaer Craft, Truckvan, Forjas Taurus, BCA, Gespi, AS Avionics, Tecnobit, Glágio do Brasil, Condor, Cecil, Imer and Índios Pirotecnia. Embraer also attended the fair, but in a different stand.
