São Paulo – Kofi Annan, secretary general of the United Nations (UN), said this morning (14), at the opening of the 11th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) in São Paulo, Brazil, that developing nations must take advantage of trade opportunities presented among themselves.
"The new round of multilateral talks that will be launched here to expand the Global System of Trade Preferences among Developing Countries (GSTP) holds great promise," he said. According to Annan, if developing countries agree to reduce import tariffs by 50%, a total of US$ 15.5 billion will be added to international trade.
