Brasília – President Dilma Rousseff said this Monday (21) that the strengthening of Mercosur necessarily depends on the adoption of more agile trade cooperation methods and on the creation of international productive chains. “Our decision to strengthen the bloc economically and commercially, through the removal of trade barriers, expresses our long-term commitment to Mercosur. Brazil is committed to taking this task to a good end”, she said in her speech at the 49th Summit of Heads of State of Mercosur and Associated States in Asunción, Paraguay.
The president said that despite the countercyclical measures taken by Brazil to protect the economy from the downturn, the slow pace of the global recovery and, especially, the sharp decline in commodities’ prices, along with internal factors, impacted Brazilian growth in a structural way. “Our economy displays solid foundations. We have considerable reserves and a financial situation under control. I’m certain that the re-organization of the fiscal framework in Brazil soon will bring positive results along with the end of the political crisis that has been impacting my second term since its beginning”, she said.
