São Paulo – Over 170 civil society representatives from countries in all continents are now in Doha, the capital of Qatar, for the pre-forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, an event that discusses the convergences of intercultural matters, governance and development, with an emphasis on the Arab world.
The Alliance of Civilizations is an initiative established by the United Nations in 2005 with the purpose of mobilizing public opinion worldwide to the overcoming of prejudice among peoples. This week’s event is a preparation for the main forum, scheduled for December.
Priority matters to be discussed during the pre-forum will be the consolidation of education, youth, the media, and migration programs. The aim is to encourage greater involvement of decision-makers in each country, in public and private matters.
According to the website of the event organizers, two Brazilians will take part in the pre-forum, one representative of University Cândido Mendes and one representative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.
