São Paulo – Demand for domestic air travel was up 1.96% year-on-year in June, the Brazilian Airlines Association (Abear) reported this Thursday (25) in São Paulo. Flight availability from carriers, on the other hand, was down 0.68%.
Abear technical consultant Maurício Emboaba said the hike in demand does not equate to industry expansion, since demand in June 2016 – the basis for comparison – was sluggish as the political crisis peaked.
The data include services rendered by airlines Avianca (which had a 13.49% market share), Azul (18.28%), Gol (35.39%) and Latam (32.85%). Flight occupancy rate averaged at 80.24%, up 2.08 percentage points, a healthy performance for the carriers as far as Abear is concerned.
