São Paulo – Exports by Qatar, an Arab country in the Gulf, more than doubled in April compared to the same period in 2021, driven by gas sales, according to information released this Friday (27) by the official local news agency Qatar News Agency (QNA) based on data from the Arab country’s Planning and Statistics Authority.
Qatar obtained QAR 43.5 billion (about USD 11.8 billion at the current rate) in foreign sales revenue, including exports and re-exports. Re-exports refer to products from other countries exported by Qatar to third parties. Compared with April last year, the increase reached 107.4%, and with March 2021, growth was 18.4%.
In a year-to-year comparison, Qatar had a 108% growth in exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), propane, butane, and related products. Volumes of these exports accounted for over half of what the Arab country sold abroad in April; QAR 27.8 billion (about USD 7.5 billion). Crude oil sales also drove growth.
Last month, China was the leading destination for Qatari exports, yielding around QAR 6.6 billion (about USD 1.8 billion) in revenue for the Arab country with its purchases. The Chinese accounted for 15.1% of Qatar’s total exports. The second major destination was India, with QAR 5.5 billion (about USD 1.5 billion), 12.7% of the total. Japan clinched the third spot, with QAR 4.5 billion (about USD1.23 billion), a 10.4% share.
