São Paulo – In November, 6.5 million passengers went through Dubai International Airport (DXB), a 9.4% increase in comparison to the same month of 2015, when it received slightly more than 6 million passengers. The data was made available by Dubai Airports, the airport operator, this Wednesday (4).
India was the top destination country for passengers in the month, driven by the increase in capacity and launching of new services by Indian airlines Spice Jet, Jet Airways and Air India. The top country was followed by Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and Pakistan. In terms of growth percentage, the highlight was Eastern Europe with 26.5%, followed by Asia, with 17.3%, and the Gulf region, with 17%.
The top destination cities were London, United Kingdom, Doha, Qatar, Mumbai, India, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In November, the airport had 34,692 flights, a 2.7% rise over the 33,787 a year earlier. The average number of passengers per flight increased from 188 in November 2015 to 200 in November 2016.
In regards to cargo, DXB handled 234,700 tons last November, 7.5% more than the 217,300 tons a year earlier. To Paul Griffiths, the airport’s CEO, the performance was very satisfying:
“We are very pleased with the overall growth at DXB in general and passenger traffic in particular, with average monthly traffic nearing 7 million passengers this year. Considering the seasonal rush of travellers we experienced at DXB during the holiday season in December, we are all set to achieve impressive annual growth yet again,” he said in a statement.
From January to November, DXB received 75.9 million passengers, up 7% over the same period in 2015. The number of flights rose 2.9% in the period, totaling 382,155, while the volume of cargo totaled 2.3 million tons, an increase of 3.3% over the first eleven months of the previous year.
