São Paulo – Dubai Duty Free sales increased 7.36% in 2014 in comparison to 2013, reaching US$ 1.917 billion, a record revenue figure for the retail operator. Last year, there were 26,995,367 sales transactions recorded in stores at both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport.
According to the company, perfumes were the top-selling products in 2014, reaching US$ 314 million, 17% of Dubai Duty Free’s total sales. Following were liquor (US$ 286 million) and jewelries (US$ 163.6 million). Cigarettes and tobacco products came in fourth with US% 160 million sales, and confectionery products reach the fifth place with US$ 147.7 million.
December also had record-breaking sales, with US$ 205.24 million, a 7% increase over the transactions in the same month of 2013. One of the factors that contributed for the increase in sales in the last month of the year was the celebration of Dubai Duty Free’s 31st anniversary. Because of this, the network of shops offered a 25% discount over several merchandise during 18th-20th December.
With these discounts, Dubai Duty Free reached sales of US$ 51.74 million in a 72-hour period. On December 20 alone, the day of the anniversary of the retailer, 205,485 sales transactions were recorded.
