São Paulo – Last Monday (12th), the government of Dubai launched the Dubai Speaks to You project, aimed at turning the emirate into an open-air art gallery. This is the first action of the Brand Dubai initiative, designed to promote the locality as one of the most developed and culturally diverse destinations in the world. The information was supplied by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“We are giving you the opportunity to make your city into an open air museum; Dubai is your canvas,” said sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate’s ruler, calling out for young artists to develop projects for the city.
“We celebrate innovation, art and beauty. Your talent, and creativity will invite visitors, citizens and residents to explore the many facets of Dubai’s rich diversity and pioneering spirit. And this is an invitation to all artists in the UAE who want to participate in this project,” he said.
The Brand Dubai team will work in tandem with the emirate’s leading real estate developers, such as Nakheel, Meydan, Emaar, Dubai Holding and Meraas Holding, to make prime locations available for the artwork, which may be graffiti, installations, photographs or sculptures.
“Public spaces are the essence of the look and feel of a city and this is why we are launching this project. We want people to experience Dubai’s dynamism,” said Mona Ghanem Al Marri, director general of the Dubai government’s Media Office.
Marri explains that the project selection criteria will be set by Brand Dubai alongside the real estate developers and the participating artists.
