São Paulo – Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, was ranked the third safest city globally for women traveling solo in a study by travel insurance website InsureMyTrip. According to the website, 84% of people traveling solo are women. A study was carried out to serve this audience better and find the safest places for female tourists.
“Overall, Dubai has a meager crime rate and is considered safe for women to travel. Most public transport in the emirate offers women-only areas. It is essential to research Dubai’s laws and dress code before visiting, as women are expected to dress modestly when in public.
According to the study, the safest city for women traveling solo is Medina, in Saudi Arabia. The Arab city received a maximum score (10/10) in the categories “safety walking alone at night” and “no concern about gender-based attacks.” Non-Muslims are allowed to visit some parts of the holy city.
Chiang Mai, Thailand, is the second safest city in the survey, with 9.06 in the same categories. Dubai ranked third with a rating of 9.04. In fourth place came Kyoto, in Japan (9.02); and in Macau, in China, clinched fifth (8.75).
The five least safe cities for women traveling solo were Johannesburg, South Africa, with a score of zero; followed by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2.98); Delhi, India (3.39); Jakarta, Indonesia (3.47); and Paris, France (3.78 out of 10).
