São Paulo – The fifth edition of Halal Expo–Dubai will be held from November 12th to 14th in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the only dedicated event for the halal industry in the Middle East.
Halal certification ensures that products such as foods, beverages and cosmetics have been made in accordance with Islamic rules. For some types of food, such as beef and chicken, the halal label is mandatory in order for products to be exported to Islamic countries. For other types of items, such as sweets, beverages and creams, for instance, halal certification is usually not mandatory, but regarded as a plus when it comes to selling in Muslim countries.
The 2011 edition of Halal Expo-Dubai received 2,100 visitors. This year, according to the event’s website, organizers are expecting more than 5,000 visitors from over 40 countries. The last edition had 58 enterprises from 11 different countries, which showcased products such as vegetables, grain, canned goods, dairy, beef, poultry, fruit, cashews, organics, pharmaceuticals, and body care, among others.
Exhibiting countries in the fourth edition included United States, Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Kuwait, Jordan, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Argentina, France and China. Foreigners represented 88% of all exhibitors at the fair.
Open only to business visitors, the event attracted executives from countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, China, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, Oman, Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Sweden, United States, Brunei, Switzerland, and Brazil, among others.
