Brasília – Economic activity increased in Brazil for the second month on end last July. The Brazilian Central Bank’s seasonally-adjusted Economic Activity Index (IBC-Br) was up 0.57% in July from June, the monetary authority reported this Monday (17).
Revised data from the Bank show that June had seen GDP widen by 3.42% over May, while it had weakened by 3.35% in May from April.
Year-on-year in July, GDP was up 2.56%. In the 12 months through July, it shrank by 1.46%. Year-to-date through July, it widened by 1.19%.
The IBC-Br factors in activity levels in industry, trade and services, agriculture and tax revenues. It was created by the Central Bank to anticipate economic behavior. The official indicator is the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
