Brasília – Economic activity declined in the year’s first month. According to data released this Monday (19) by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC), the Index of Economic Activity of the Central Bank (IBC-Br), seasonally adjusted, showed a decline of 0.56% in January, compared to December. In comparison to January of 2017, there was a 2.97% growth, according to non-adjusted data, since the comparison is among the same periods.
Year-over year ending in January, there was an increase of 1.2% in the non-adjusted data.
IBC-Br is a way of assessing the improvement of the Brazilian economic activity and includes data on the level of activity of the economy’s three sectors: industry, retail and services and agriculture, plus the volume of taxes. But the official indicator on the economy’s performance is the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), measured by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
