Brasília – Brazil’s economic activity grew 1.64% last year, according to the Economic Activity Index of the Central Bank of Brazil (IBC-Br), disclosed on Thursday (20) by the institution. The percentage is not seasonally adjusted. After adjustment, the expansion falls to 1.35%
In the last month of last year, the economy was growing less than in November. According to figures without seasonal correction the growth in December, in comparison with the previous month, was 0.26%. In November expansion had been 0.57%.
In the comparison between December 2012 and the same month in the previous year, the growth was 1.19%, without seasonal adjustment for the period. This is considered the most adequate for this kind of comparison.
Quarterly figures also show deceleration in the economy. In the last quarter of last year, when compared to the previous three-month period, expansion was 0.62%, according to seasonally adjusted figures. In the third quarter as against the second, there was growth of 1.12%. The IBC-Br is a form of evaluating and forecasting the evolution of Brazil’s economic activity.
