Brasília – Brazilian economic activity grew by 0.27% (seasonally adjusted) in August, according to data released this Thursday (16th) by the Central Bank. This is the second consecutive month the Economic Activity Index of the Brazilian Central Bank (IBC-Br) posts a hike. In July, the seasonally adjusted growth was 1.5%, while June saw a 1.51% drop.
Year-on-year in August, the index shows a seasonally adjusted decline of 0.15%. Without the adjustment, the fall would be 1.35%. Year-to-date through August, in already adjusted figures, economic activity grew by 0.4%. Considering the twelve-month period ended August, the IBC was up 0.93%.
The IBC-Br is an evaluation tool used to assess Brazilian economic activity. The index comprises information about the level of activity across the three sectors of economy: industry, retail and services, and agriculture.
