Brasília – The crisis that affected Tunisia and Egypt, generating protests and resignation of the presidents of both countries, is not frightening tourists. The conclusion is by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), which recorded slow recovery of tourist attraction capacity in both Tunisia and Egypt.
Explanations are that, without confrontation between security forces and protesters, tourists have started returning to the region. The WTO operates in partnership with authorities who control the temporary governments, both in Tunisia and in Egypt, to stimulate the return of tourists to the region.
In the period of protests in Egypt, the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum were surrounded and closed to visitation. In Tunisia, the medina – the historic and artistic centre of Tunis, the country capital – and museums were also surrounded, for security reasons, during the days of the protests.
