São Paulo – The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi (pictured above), announced the country’s aspiration to host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties in 2022 (UNFCCC COP27) as Africa’s representative. The announcement was made during Al-Sisi’s virtual participation in the meeting of heads of state and government on climate this Tuesday (21), in parallel with the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, according to information on the Saudi Arab News website.
In his address at the meeting, the Egyptian president emphasized the importance of developed countries taking on responsibilities under the Paris Agreement and the UNFCCC. He also spoke on the need to seriously address the contribution unilateral measures have to exacerbate the consequences of climate change, including the construction of dams on international rivers.
