São Paulo – The Egyptian Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which runs the country’s transitional government, issued a decree scheduling the beginning of the Parliamentary elections for November 28. These will be the country’s first elections since dictator Hosni Mubarak was ousted, in February. The information was disclosed by the English website of the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram.
According to the publication, on the 28 the elections will be held in nine regions, or governorates. On December 14, another 14 districts will cast ballots. The third part of the election will take place on January 3, in nine other governorates.
Elections for the Shura, which is the Parliament’s higher chamber, will take place on January 29, according to the newspaper. The first plenary meeting of the People’s Assembly, i.e. the lower chamber, is scheduled for March 16, and the Shura’s first meeting is due on the 24th of the same month.
