São Paulo – The Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion is working to attract tourists from new markets to Egypt, especially Latin American countries like Brazil. The information was confirmed to ANBA via email by the organization’s president, Amr El-Qadi. According to Al-Qadi, the region’s citizens have a great tourism culture, and Brazilian tourists were strongly present in Egypt during the 1990s.
This week, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities launched a new strategy to attract more tourists. According to El-Qady, it includes multiple stimuli for tourism and travel agents and programs in the area. The chairman of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion said Egyptian tourism was greatly affected by the Russia-Ukraine war.
To expand tourism, the Arab country will organize the first international tourism show in Egypt under the name Gate Travel Expo (GTE) in September this year, with the participation of over 200 companies specializing in tourism and aviation, representing 56 countries. The event will be sponsored by the Egyptian Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities and Youth and Sports in partnership with the company Skydive Pharaohs, one of the country’s leading players in adventure sports tourism.
Research and strategy
Based on sector research, the newly launched strategy has the collaboration of the country’s global tourism office, the International House of Expertise, and the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Tourism. The prime minister of Egypt, Moustafa Madbouly, held a meeting on the subject with the International House of Expertise; the minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khaled Al-Anani; the president of the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Wasif; and the assistant for Technical Affairs of the Ministry of Tourism, Youmna Al-Bahar.
The study aimed to formulate a strategic framework for Egyptian tourism, supporting the government’s efforts to sustainably develop the sector and prepare the evolution of this industry as a whole, in line with the strategies previously adopted by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The consulting firm met with several ministers in recent months, assessed their views, and held workshops on the subject.
Representatives of the global consulting firm praised the work carried out in Egypt in recent years and the legislation and procedures approved for the tourism sector. They emphasized the increase in the efficiency of infrastructure and legislation contributes to increasing quality in the segment, and the strategic plan expects the active participation of the private sector.
Execution
At the end of the meeting, the Egyptian Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities to assemble qualitative working committees to develop the mechanisms for implementing the strategy, in addition to presenting the project at the next meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Tourism.
