São Paulo – Egypt is still in the lead among the importers of raw Brazilian cattle beef. The Arab country imported 18,890 tonnes of the product in February, which generated US$ 19.88 million in revenues. However, when compared to last year, the shipping dropped 7.03% in terms of volume and 2.04% in terms of revenues, according to information supplied by the Association of Brazilian Beef Industry and Exporters Association (Abiec).
In total, Brazilian exports of raw and industrialized cattle beef and organs totalled US$ 189.3 million last year, which represented an increase of 27.03% over the figure for February 2004. Shipping in turn totalled 153,400 tonnes, 28.10% more than in the same month last year.
According to the Abiec, the growth in exports to new markets has been one of the highlights of recent months. The country imported US$ 2.98 million and a total of 2,770 tonnes were shipped, an increase of 849.75%.
For this year, the association intends to organize two workshops to promote the positive results of exports of the product to Egypt and to Bulgaria, which presented growth of 1,578.9% in terms of revenues and 1,620 in terms of volume. One of them will be at the Brazilian embassy in Egypt and the other in the European country.
