São Paulo – The Egyptian ambassador to the Brazilian capital Brasília, Mohamed Abdel Fattah Abdallah, was awarded today (26), in Brasília, the Order of Rio Branco, granted by the Brazilian foreign office (Itamaraty). The order is an acknowledgement of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations to the work of diplomats and personalities, Brazilian and foreign. Abdallah is leaving the position of Egyptian ambassador to Brazil.
During the ceremony, held at the Itamaraty Palace, the undersecretary general for politics to Africa, Asia/Oceania and the Middle East at the Ministry, Roberto Jaguaribe, discussed the relations between Brazil and Egypt and their expansion in recent years. He underscored that trade between the two countries has quadrupled since 2003, with the creation the Brazil-Egypt Council, and stated that he expects the relations to grow further.
The Foreign Relations vice president at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Helmi Nasr, and the secretary general at the organisation, Michel Alaby, participated in the ceremony, which brought together around 30 people, mostly diplomats. Abdallah attended the solemnity accompanied by his wife, Nadia Awad M. El-Rais. Tomorrow (27) the ambassador will be received over dinner, in Brasília, by the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brazil.
