São Paulo – The Egyptian artisan Bahaaelden Hassan Elsayaed will participate in Feira dos Países (Fair of the Countries), an event taking place at the Golden Square Shopping, in São Bernardo do Campo, up until December 1st, and featuring exhibitors from seven different countries: Egypt, Brazil, Pakistan, Turkey, Senegal, Bolivia and India.
According to information from the festival’s organizers, Elsayaed makes items such as bas-relief carved plates, hand-painted mother of pearl boxes, pyramids and the traditional papyri, made from the trunk of the stem of the juncus tree, using the same technique as in the time of pharaohs.
The artisan lives in Egypt and is in Brazil especially for the fair. All of his items are on sale, and the prices range from R$ 10 to R$ 200. The fair will feature approximately 10,000 objects, with prices ranging from R$ 5 to R$ 15,000.
According to information from the organizers of the fair, most of the items on display were made by families and communities that live off the art they make. The fair features decoration items, accessories, costume jewellery, fabrics and carpets, among other items.
Each booth includes a panel explaining the history of typical handicraft from each locality, and curiosities about the region. The goal is to value artisanal work and encourage the interest and admiration of visitors regarding the customs and the culture of the countries and states featured.
“In addition to buying exclusive, quality items, visitors will get to know other cultures. Where the artisans themselves are not in attendance, a representative from their country has come on their behalf,” said the fair’s coordinator Carmem Fernandes in a press statement.
