São Paulo – Egypt’s ElKhalil for Foodstuff and Wholesaling company is looking to export herbs and spices to Brazil. Hailing from Alexandria, it has shipped goods to the country a few years ago, and now it hopes to do it again.
“Brazil is importing lots of products from Egypt. I had a client in Brazil five years back and I know the country imports seeds and medicinal plants. I want to expand our business in Brazil and find new customers,” said commercial manager Muna Abdelal.
According to her, the client in Brazil used to buy anise and was from the city of Santos, on the São Paulo state coast. The manager says she has sent business proposals to prospective clients in Brazil, but did not hear back from them.
ElKhalil does not produce the goods it sells; it buys from the producers, packages and exports them. The company offers a range of 58 items including lentils, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cumin seeds, paprika, curcuma, seeds of nigella, black pepper, clove, laurel leaves, cardamom, cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, marjoram, thyme, basil, dried onion and hibiscus flower, among other products.
“All of the spices, aromatic and medicinal plants are suited to the Brazilian market,” Abdelal replies regarding the business potential in Brazil. ElKhalil works with organic and non-organic foods.
The company is export-only – it does not sell domestically in Egypt. Its top market at this time is Canada, but it also ships goods to the United States, European and Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
