Cairo – The Egyptian Export Council of Building, Refractory, and Metallurgy Industries (ECBM) revealed that the sector’s exports from Egypt have reached a value of around USD 3.177 billion during the first five months of 2022, up 36% from USD 2.345 billion a year earlier.
The United Arab Emirates was the leading destination of Egypt’s building material exports at USD 460 million, followed by Canada at USD 366 million, Italy at USD 324 million, Saudi Arabia at USD 252 million, and Spain at USD 190 million.
The report includes approximately 20 subsectors. It points out that year-to-date cement exports jumped by 94% year-on-year to USD 272 million. Marble and granite exports from Egypt surged 7% to USD 134 million. The values increased despite a decline in the exported volume to 728,043 tonnes.
Stone and material mineral exports jumped by 24% to USD 170 million during the first five months of 2022, compared to the same period a year earlier. Glass and glass products surged 32% to USD 226 million. On the other hand, exports of some products like ceramics sanitary ware slightly decreased by 1.4% to USD 140 million.
