Dubai – Dubai developer Emaar has announced plans to build the largest Chinatown in the Middle East in the retail district of its mega development Dubai Creek Harbour, according to a news feature published this Wednesday (18) by Emirates News Agency (WAM). The announcement was made on the eve of the visit of China’s president, Xi Jinping, to the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Creek Harbour is a multiuse development in a 6-square-kilometer area. According to WAM, the retail district will feature local and global fashion brands that appeal to Chinese tourists.
The company also said it will open three pavilions and China to promote tourism, education, trade and investment between China and the UAE – in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and that it will bring its Address hotel chain to the Asian country.
Emaar Properties chairman Mohamed Alabbar said some 200,000 Chinese citizens live in the UAE. WAM reported that 401,000 travelers arrived in the UAE from China from January to May, up 9% year-on-year. The Asian nation is the fourth leading source of tourists to the UAE.
China-UAE trade reached USD 53.3 billion in 2017, up 15.1% from the year before, WAM said.
Emaar is responsible for some of the best known real estate projects in Dubai, like Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and Dubai Mall.
