São Paulo – The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Brazil is accepting submissions for a contest of short films by Brazilian university students about the country’s founder, sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan. The year of 2018 has been named “Year of Zayed,” to mark the deceased dignitary’s 100th birthday.
“In his honor, the Embassy of the UAE is holding this film contest, so everyone can have the opportunity to find out more about such a key figure for the country,” the contest regulations say of Zayed (pictured above in a mural).
Maximum film length is four minutes, and the theme is “Year of Zayed, the birth of a nation.” Any kind of film will be accepted, including live action, stop motion, 3D animation and typography. Films must be spoken in Portuguese and subtitled in English.
Entrants must provide proof of enrolment in a higher education institution. Graduate, postgraduate, master’s and doctoral students can enter the contest. film Crews must be four people at most, and all must be university students.
The winner will get a trip to the UAE for two and a professional video camera. Second place gets a professional video camera as well, and third place gets a computer. If a crew wins, only two in the crew will get to travel.
The contest opened on April 27, 2018 and submissions will be accepted from June 22 through October 26. Winners will be announced between November 16 and 23, and the films will be screened on December 2, the UAE National Day. The first through third places will join a celebration on that date. The winner or winners will travel in 2019.
