São Paulo – The Embassy of Kuwait in Brasília celebrated this Wednesday (15) the 62nd National Day and 32nd Liberation Day of the Gulf country. On the occasion, ambassador Nasser Almotairi (pictured) received authorities and diplomats from Brazil and the Arab countries and took the opportunity to announce the Brazil-Kuwait Economic Forum, expected to be held in June this year.
“We believe there are great investment opportunities in Brazil, mainly in renewable energy, infrastructure, and food security, and the time has come to move from commercial exchange to strategic cooperation. From this perspective, preparations are underway for holding the first [Brazil-Kuwait] Economic Forum next June. In this context, I would like to thank the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), ambassador Osmar Chohfi, and the secretary-general, Tamer Mansour, for the support and facilitations provided,” said ambassador Almotairi.
Brazil and Kuwait established diplomatic relations over 50 years ago and have seen growth in all fields, recalled the ambassador. “In the political field, several visits by authorities were exchanged, in addition to holding more than one round of political consultations. Regarding the economic field, the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) played an essential role in strengthening bilateral ties, as it is considered one of the first sovereign funds in the world to invest in many sectors in Brazil,” he said, also informing about the trade exchange growth even during the pandemic.
The Kuwaiti ambassador took advantage of the occasion to wish the new Brazilian government success and reiterate Kuwait’s permanent will to strengthen its relationship with Brazil in all fields.
Among the authorities at the event were the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, André de Paula; the director of the Middle East Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador Sidney Romero; and Supreme Court (STF) justice Luís Roberto Barroso. From the ABCC were Chohfi, Mansour, and Institutional Relations director Fernanda Baltazar.
The ABCC team is on a schedule of events this week in the Brazilian federal capital, Brasília. In addition to participating in the Kuwait event this Wednesday, they met at the Federation of Industries of the Federal District (Fibra). Fibra and the ABCC decided to work on promoting joint actions and agreed to hold an event in Brasília to discuss the Arab market.
