São Paulo – Embraer and Boeing have announced this Monday (12th) the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the implementation, in São José dos Campos, state of São Paulo, of a biofuels research centre. In a press release, the companies have stated that the partnership’s goal is to “develop and improve knowledge and technologies to enable a sustainable biofuel production chain for aviation.”
Following the signing of the memorandum, the two enterprises will draft a “collaboration agreement” in order to develop the project. Other companies and organizations may take part in research and activities.
This is not the first time Boeing and Embraer have worked in tandem to seek alternatives to oil-based aircraft fuel. In 2011, the two companies and the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) joined forces to launch a development plan for a biofuels industry for Brazil’s aerospace industry. The press release does not disclose when the Joint Biofuels Research Centre will be inaugurated, but informs that it should be located on the Technology Park in the city of São José dos Campos.
