São Paulo – The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer delivered 244 jets in 2009, surpassing the goal that had been set for the year, of 242 aircraft. In the last quarter of last year, 91 units were delivered to the segments of commercial, executive and defence segments. As of the last day of 2009, Embraer’s firm order backlog totalled US$ 16.6 billion.
From October to December 2009, Embraer delivered 23 E-Jets and three ERJ 145 to the commercial aviation segment; six Legacy 600 jets, 52 Phenom 100s, two Lineage 1000s (one of them to Al Jaber Aviation, based in Abu Dhabi) and the first Phenom 300 to the executive aviation segment; plus one ERJ 135 jet, two Phenom 100s and one EMBRAER 190 to the defence market.
During the same period, with regard to commercial aviation, Embraer signed deals with Oman Air, based in Oman, for the sale of five EMBRAER 175 jets, and with Austrian airline NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH, which confirmed the purchase rights to two more EMBRAER 190s. Air Astana, an airline from Kazakhstan, has also signed a contract to operate two EMBRAER 190s in Asia, by means of a leasing agreement with North American company Jetscape Inc.
In the last quarter of 2009, Embraer also started deliveries of the Phenom 300 light category executive jet, which was certified in December by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), from Brazil, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), from the United States.
In October, Embraer launched a new executive jet – the large category Legacy 650,– and announced the first order placed by Aircraft Asset Management AAM GmbH, from Germany, for two aircraft of the model. In that same month, there was also significant growth in the number of deliveries of Phenom 100 jets, with 52 aircraft.
In the defence market, Embraer announced the signing of a contract with the Royal Thai Navy for the sale of another ERJ 135 jet. The Brazilian government received the second Embraer 190 jet configured to fly on missions of the Presidency of the Republic, after the first aircraft was delivered in September.
In December, Embraer started deliveries of its Super Tucano with two clients: two aircraft went to the government of the Dominican Republic, which ordered eight aircraft, and four others went to the Chilean Air Force, which will receive 12 aircraft.
