São Paulo – The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer announced its first-quarter results in the evening yesterday (29th). The company posted a net profit of 44.1 million Brazilian real (US$ 25.4 million), as against 38.3 million real (US$ 22.1 million) in the same period of last year, and 167.5 million real (US$ 96.7 million) in the last quarter of 2009.
Revenues totalled 1.78 million real (US$ 1 million), a figure lower than recorded in the first and last quarters of last year. The number of aircraft deliveries was lower in the first three months of 2010 than in the same period of 2009, which prompted the drop in revenues.
Nevertheless, profit increased in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of last year. This, according to company, happened due to product diversification. There was significant growth in the shares of the defence and aeronautical services sectors in revenues.
In that respect, the figures show an increase in company profitability. In addition to product diversification, the company informed that it makes “ongoing efforts in the quest for improving efficiency.” Embraer’s firm order backlog reached US$ 16 billion in the first quarter.
