São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates are among the leading markets for Brazilian eggs. In the first half, the country shipped 15,900 tonnes of the product abroad, being 14,700 tonnes of raw and 1,240 of processed eggs. The data were disclosed by the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef).
Aside from the Emirate,s Saudi Arabia, Japan, Angola and Venezuela were the leading importers. Shipments of eggs in general declined by 14.5% over the first half last year.
The Middle East also stood out in Brazilian chicken meat exports. The region imported 661,500 tonnes from January to June, representing growth of 0.5% over the same period of 2009. Sales totalled US$ 1 billion, growth of 20.1%.
Foreign sales of chicken from Brazil totalled US$ 3.1 billion in the first half, representing growth of 15%. Shipments totalled 1.8 million tonnes, a 0.12% decline using the same basis of comparison.
The second leading target of Brazilian chicken exports was Asia, with US$ 916 million in exports. In terms of volume, the region imported 493,200 tonnes in the first half. Shipments to the European Union totalled 206,100 tonnes, generating US$ 520 million in revenues. The country shipped the equivalent of US$ 262.1 million to Africa, with 226,700 tonnes shipped. Exports to the Americas generated revenues of US$ 232 million and totalled 139,600 tonnes.
