São Paulo – The Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ), in the United Arab Emirates, issued its first-half results yesterday (17th). According to a statement issued by the organization, 875 new companies have registered to operate in its facilities. There was also growth of 9% in revenues obtained by the complex, compared with the same period of last year.
According to the statement, the new enterprises in the free zone operate in the following sectors: 188 consultancy firms, or 21% of the total; 144 replacement parts companies, or 16%; 120 information technology companies, or 14%; 86 foodstuffs enterprises, or 10%; 62 textile companies, or 7%; and 50 electronic product companies, or 6%. The remaining businesses operate in other industrial segments. Presently, the free trade zone comprises companies from 106 different countries.
The RAK FTZ informed that the growing number of companies is a direct consequence of its marketing and public relations actions. In the first six months of 2010, the organization attended trade fairs, sponsored international events and received a series of business delegations.
As an example, she mentioned the free trade zone’s sponsorship to the African Regional Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA), held in March in South Africa. According to the RAK FTZ, the event was attended by 35,000 lawyers and 197 lawyer associations based in London, São Paulo and Dubai.
In addition, the organization promoted a trade mission to the United States, exhibited for the first time at the Airport Show, in Dubai, and received 13 business delegations from Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The RAK FTZ will also host the World Free Zone Convention, in November.
