São Paulo – Emirates, one of the national airlines of the United Arab Emirates, signed a codeshare agreement with Brazilian airline Azul. The information was announced this Wednesday (18) on the website of the Arab country’s official news agency, Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The agreement will allow Emirates’ passengers to connect to eight cities in Brazil via São Paulo. The connections will be to Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Belo Horizonte, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Juazeiro do Norte, Porto Alegre, and Recife on flights operated by Azul, with Dubai as a destination or departure, on flights operated by Emirates.

The Arab airline informed tickets can be purchased on its website or through offices and sales agents, as of this Wednesday, August 18, for trips starting on August 25 this year. Connecting flights will be issued in a single ticket, according to Emirates.
“Brazil is an important market for Emirates, and our codeshare with Azul reinforces our commitment to strengthening our reach in the region and opening up more options for our customers,” said the airline’s commercial director, Adnan Kazim, in a statement. Azul’s Chief Revenue Officer, Abhi Shah, stated the partnership would benefit Azul’s customers with unparalleled connectivity in Brazil and abroad.
Emirates has codeshare agreements with 21 partner airlines. The company currently operates five nonstop flights every week between São Paulo and Dubai. The aircraft used for flights to Brazil is the widebody Boeing 777-300ER. The company serves 157 destinations worldwide, according to information on its website.
