São Paulo – Emirates Airline announced this Thursday (9) via a press release that it will resume its Dubai-São Paulo flights on August 2. The UAE-based carrier is yet to provide details regarding flight frequency. Before the Covid-19 pandemic erupted, this was a twice-daily route.
Late into March, Emirates grounded most of its flights as it shifted its focus to repatriation efforts. It flew Brazilian citizens from the UAE back home. It also carried Covid-19 test kits from China to Brazil during that time.
Foreign travelers are allowed into the Dubai International Airport since last Tuesday (7), with requirements including negative test results or testing on arrival. Passengers must be health-insured and wear personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves.
Brazil’s borders remain shut, with exceptions put in place towards the end of June. Foreigners are allowed to enter in order to engage in art, sports or business activities, provided that they do not stay long and do not intend to settle in the country. Temporary residence is allowed for purposes including research, teaching or academic studies. Foreign travelers are allowed in at some airports only, including GRU, where Emirates is active.
Emirates will also resume flying to five other cities: Geneva, Switzerland on July 15, Los Angeles, USA on July 22, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on August 1, Prague, Czech Republic on August2, and Boston, USA on August 15. This will increase the UAE-based airline’s post-pandemic reach to 58 cities, including 20 in Europe and 24 in the Asia-Pacific.
“We’ve seen an uptick in customer interest and demand since the announcement of Dubai’s re-opening, and also with the increased travel options that we offer as we gradually re-establish our network connectivity,” a press release quoted Emirates commercial director Adnan Kazim as saying. He guarantees that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the health and safety of staff and passengers alike.
