Dubai – Dubai-based Emirates Airlines will resume using Airbus A380 aircraft for its daily flights between Dubai and São Paulo as of October 31. The announcement was made by the governor of the state of São Paulo, João Doria, who met with the CEO of Emirates Airlines, Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in a government building at Expo 2020 Dubai this Wednesday (27). Ahmed is the uncle of the emir of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. Pictured above, Doria and Ahmed Al Maktoum.
Before the pandemic, Dubai International Airport served about 90 million passengers every year. According to Doria, Al Maktoum stated, in his recovery plan, he wants to return to that number, and in a second moment, surpass it, going from third to first passenger hub in the world and leaving behind the international airports of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (USA) and London Heathrow (UK), which are currently ranked first and second, respectively.
The governor of São Paulo also mentioned “good prospects” for the resumption of daily flights between Dubai and Rio de Janeiro this year using the Boeing 777. This flight also has Santiago, the capital city of Chile, as a destination in its other leg. The Boeing 777 has a capacity of 354 passengers, while the Airbus A380 can accommodate up to 516. Currently, the Boeing 777 operates in Emirates’ São Paulo – Dubai route.
