São Paulo – Emirates Airline and Formula 1 have announced this Tuesday (5th) that the airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates will sponsor the competition for the next five years. In the current season, the company will sponsor 15 out of the 19 grand prix races that have already been confirmed.
The airline will showcase its brand at races in Malaysia, China, Spain, Canada, Britain, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Korea, Japan, India, United States and Brazil. The company will not take part in the races in Australia, Bahrain, Monaco and Abu Dhabi. The latter is sponsored by Emirates’ competitor Etihad Airways, also based in the UAE.
Formula 1 has not confirmed yet whether the Europe GP, which had been scheduled for July 21, will take place this year.
According to a press release from Emirates, its chairman Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said this is a great opportunity to “align two world leading brands.” He also said the company is branching out on its sports partnerships. The brand sponsors the British football team Arsenal, the ATP World Tour tennis tournament, and will participate in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
