São Paulo – Enrolment is already open for participation in the Brazil-Jordan Trade Forum, to take place in São Paulo on October 24th, during the visit of Jordanian king Abdullah II, to Brazil. The objective of the meeting is to bring together businessmen from both countries and promote investment and business opportunities.
The event should take place at the Renaissance hotel and should include a seminar about the economy and business opportunities in Jordan, to be opened by the king, followed by business roundtables. Promotion is by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Jordan Investment Board (JIB), the investment promotion agency of the Arab country, with the support of the embassy of Jordan in Brasília.
According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Michel Alaby, representatives of between 15 and 20 Jordanian companies in different sectors should be present. Prominent sectors in the country are the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, tourism, information and communication technology and fertilizer sectors, among others.
The main items exported by Jordan are fabrics and clothes, metals and precious stones, fertilizers and pharmaceutical products, according to a study by the Arab Brazilian Chamber. These products, however, are very little sold to Brazil. On the other hand, Brazil exports aircraft, meats, sugar, aluminium, coffee and vehicles to the Arab country.
According to the Chamber report, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Jordan has been growing on average 6% a year since 2001 and, apart from trade, the country is seeking investment in the pharmaceutical, information technology, food, cosmetics, textile and vehicle sectors.
Enrolment for participation in the forum is free and may be done on site www.ccab.org.br. Apart from the seminars and business roundtables, a cooperation agreement should also be signed between the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce, focussing on support to commercial promotion between both nations.
