São Paulo – To promote the image of Brazilian ethanol abroad, the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and the São Paulo Sugar Cane Agroindustry Union (Unica) signed today (25) an agreement that forecasts investment of 16.5 million Brazilian reals (US$ 9.7 million) up to the end of 2009.
The countries of North Africa, Europe and Asia are the target markets for the project, which intends to prepare the offer of Brazilian ethanol, to promote commercial intelligence studies and to develop actions for image and commercial promotion. The first step of the project is the opening of representative offices in the United States, Belgium and in an Asian country yet to be defined.
The actions in the project should directly benefit the 107 companies that are associated to the Unica and 243 processing units in the sugar and alcohol sector spread around the country. Apart from that, the project also favours the productive chain of ethanol and sugarcane, which includes research in biotechnology for new varieties of cane, the supply of inputs and equipment, sugarcane production, trading organisations, mills and service providers.
