São Paulo – Brazilian executive Antonoaldo Neves was appointed as the new CEO of United Arab Emirates’ Etihad Aviation Group. He will succeed United Kingdom’s Tony Douglas, who will serve during his transition period as an advisor.
Neves was CEO of Portugal’s TAP, where he led a major turnaround that resulted in a more valuable company, significantly contributing to tourism development in Portugal. Prior to TAP, Neves was the president of Azul Airlines in Brazil, where he led the company to IPO in the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Neves was also a partner at McKinsey and Company, where he developed the long-term plan for the aviation sector development in Brazil.
Neves said he was excited to build on the solid foundation left by Douglas and the management team. “I am confident that Etihad will prosper into new heights and continue its journey of sustainable growth,” he was quoted as saying. Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, chairman of Etihad Aviation Group, said Douglas has successfully turned the airline into a profitable and sustainable business and the new CEO will build on Douglas’ legacy.
