São Paulo – Etihad Airways, the Abu Dhabi-based airline, posted US$ 3.2 billion in revenues in the first half of the year, up 28% from the same period last year. The figure is the highest in the company’s history for a half-year period. The information was released this Tuesday (8th) in a press release.
From January through June, Etihad carried 6.7 million passengers, up 22% from the first half of 2013. Etihad Cargo performed well too, carrying 268,713 tonnes of freight and mail in the first half, up 25% from the same period last year.
According to the press release, the airline’s solid growth was mostly underpinned by continuous growth in Q2, at 3.5 million passengers and 140,892 tonnes of cargo carried.
“At a time when the global airline industry has struggled with high fuel prices, intense competition and a slowdown in the cargo market, Etihad Airways has achieved record success, carrying more passengers and cargo to more destinations around the world, with our biggest fleet to date,” said James Hogan, president and CEO in the press release.
“We have ambitious plans to build on this momentum in the second half of 2014, with five more destinations being introduced into our global network, and our groundbreaking Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 also entering service, which will reinforce our status as a global market leader,” he said.
