São Paulo – An exhibition is bringing knowledge about the ancient Egypt to inhabitants of Indaiatuba, a municipality in São Paulo. The exhibition “Egito” (Portuguese for Egypt) started last Friday (14) and goes on until March 30th at the Polo Shopping Indaiatuba. The main attraction is a life-size mummy replica. There are also several smaller objects related to Egypt and its ancient culture.
The mummy was presented to the public this Sunday (16) by an actress dressed up as Cleopatra, ancient Egyptian queen, who performed at the mall, alongside a band of belly-dancers and slaves. After parading through the halls, the character of Cleopatra uncovered the mummy and presented it to the mall-goers.
According to the exhibition organizer, Fernando Loggar, the public is reacting very well to the exhibition. “It surpassed my expectations, people are very anxious to see the mummy replica”, says Loggar. The exhibition was conceived and organized by Loggar Entretenimento, a company which organises exhibitions, fairs, shows and artistic events. The replicas, according to Loggar, were specially made to be shown in the area.
Among the objects made are a small sculpture of the Sphinx, an Egyptian character with the body of lion and a human face, which has a giant limestone sculpture depiction of it in the Pyramid of Giza, in Egypt. The exhibition also features a replica of Tutankhamen’s face, an Egyptian pharaoh; paintings of other ancient Egyptian historical characters and Egyptian hieroglyphs – symbols used in the ancient writings of the country.
The exhibition opens the schedule for Expo Noivas, a brides’ product fair which will be held at the mall from March 28th to 30th. According to Loggar, as the theme for the bridal fair is cinema, Egypt was chosen for the exhibition, because it is the setting for many movies. Before the fair, a cinema-themed wedding dress parade will also take place at the mall.
