São Paulo – The photo exhibit Somos todos imigrantes (We’re all immigrants), featuring pictures of immigrants from various nationalities who live in São Paulo, will be open on Saturday (7th) and Sunday (8th) at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), in São Paulo. It will include 19 photos, by the photographer Chico Max, taken at Missão Paz, an immigrant welcome center in the Glicério neighborhood, in partnership with the priest Paolo Parise, who works there.
The event will also comprise other related activities, such as a film screening, a lecture and a chat with specialists. The movie “Fievel – An American Tale” is a US-made comedy by Don Bluth about a Jewish mouse who lives in Russia and dreams of relocating to the States.
The photo exhibit will be open on Saturday and Sunday and the film will show on Saturday at 2pm. Sunday at 2pm will see the lecture “We’re all immigrants,” by Clóvis de Barros Filho, a PhD and associate professor at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo (USP).
Following the screening, Chico Max, priest Paolo Parise and some of the immigrants photographed for the exhibit will speak with the public. Parise runs a social project called Missão de Paz (Peace Mission) at Paróquia Nossa Senhora da Paz (Parish of Our Lady of Peace), which welcomes immigrants and refugees. Max is a photographer, graphic designer and psychologist. Typical foods will be on sale from stands at the event.
The event is a partnership between the São Paulo State Secretariat for Culture, the Special Advisory for International Affairs of the Government of São Paulo, the photographer Chico Max, and Missão Paz. It will kick off the celebrations of Human Rights Day, December 10th.
