Brasília – Brazilians spent US$ 1.216 billion on trips abroad in January, more than in the same period last year (US$ 746 million), according to figures disclosed today (23) by the Central Bank of Brazil (BC).
According to the joint head of the Economic Department at the Central Bank of Brazil, Túlio Maciel, with the growth of economic activities and, consequentially, of employment and income, there was greater demand for international travel. Another factor that favoured it was the depreciated dollar against the Brazilian real.
Expenses of foreigners in Brazil in January, in turn, reached US$ 566 million. This month, to date, the expenses of Brazilians abroad have totalled US$ 785 million, whereas revenues with foreigners spending in Brazil have totalled US$ 390 million.
