Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian extraction industry drove the increase of 0.7% in Brazilian industry output from July to August. According to the Monthly Survey of Industry – Physical Production (PIM-PF, in the Portuguese acronym), released this Thursday (2nd) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), extraction industry had a 2.4% growth in the period.
Other sectors which also drove the hike in industry output were machinery and equipment (3.9%), oil coke, oil products and biofuels (1.5%) food products (1.1%). Overall, 14 out of 24 industrial sectors surveyed by the IBGE had an increase in August from July. Ten activities had a decline in output in the period, the highlights being beverages (-6.1%), soaps, perfumery and cleaning products (-4.2%), pharmaceutical industry (-7.4%) and motor vehicles (-1.5%).
