São Paulo – The fourth edition of the Certified Brazil fair, which begins today (7) and ends on Friday, should promote business between producers and buyers of environmentally correct and socially fair forestry and agricultural products. The event should be promoted at the São Luis Event Centre, in São Paulo.
The fair should receive 45 exhibitors showing products like wood, furniture, pulp, books, reconstituted panels, decoration objects, foods, cosmetics, oils and scents. The exhibition in 2008 received 5,000 visitors and the estimate of organizers is for growth of 50% this year.
Producers, companies and products exhibiting at the fair will have two kinds of certification: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which defines global standards for sustainable use of forests, and Rainforest Alliance Certified, which guarantees responsible agricultural practices.
Certification is one of the main tools used to guarantee the origin of the products, be they in the forestry or agricultural sector. To be certified, producers and companies must follow rigorous international standards for agricultural production and forestry management, contributing to the conservation of natural resources and to the promotion of social benefits.
Over the three days of the event, visitors may also participate in the Business Forum, one of the main spaces for discussion of social and environmental question solving in the forestry and agricultural sectors.
The fair was established in 2004 and is promoted by Imaflora (the Institute for Agricultural and Forest Management and Certification), in partnership with the Imazon (the Amazon Institute of People and the Environment), Friends of the Earth – Brazilian Amazonia, FSC International and Sustainable Agriculture Network.
