Brasília – Buoyed by debt renegotiations and by fuel tax hikes, federal tax collection increased in November in Brazil, the Federal Revenue said this Tuesday (19). Federal government collected BRL 115.089 billion in taxes, up 9.49% from November 2016 after discounting inflation as per the National Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA). This was the best result for a November since 2014 in adjusted-for-inflation terms.
Year-to-date through November, federal tax collection reached BRL 1.205 trillion, up 0.13% year-on-year. The sum was the highest since 2015. Factoring in only charges handled by the Federal Revenue (such as taxes and contributions), collection was down 0.83% through November this year. Total collection numbers include non-Federal Revenue-managed earnings such as oil royalties.
