São Paulo – The French-Tunisian artist Ismaïl Bahri will be at the 17th edition of Festival Arte Serrinha, in Bragança Paulista, 90 km from São Paulo. This Friday, at 8 pm, his film, Foyer, from 2016, will be screened, followed by a roundtable with him. Admission is free and the festival takes place at farm Fazenda Serrinha.
Foyer is a 32-minutes short documentary that shows a pulsating white screen and, complementing this white emptiness, conversations with subtitles between the cameraman and people that approach him asking about his job.
The theme of the festival, which began on July 9 and runs until July 29, is to propose a moment of celebration and artistic immersion in nature, with workshops, experiences, residencies, concerts, performances, lectures, theatre, cinema and exhibitions. The event takes place since 2002, always a three week-period during July, in the Serrinha district.
Ismaïl Bahri is 40 years old and was born in Tunis, Tunisia. The visual artist lives between his hometown, Paris and Lyon, France. The video as a form of expression plays an important role in his work, which also includes drawings, photos and installations. His work focuses on simple elements of day-to-day life, from which he develops processes and attributes universal issues.
Instruments
Besides participating in the festival, the artist is presenting a solo exhibition called Instruments at Espaço Cultural Porto Seguro, in São Paulo, since May 22. His first exhibition in Latin America features video installations focusing on ephemerality and simplicity. The exhibition runs until Sunday (22) and is for free.
