São Paulo – Sesc São Carlos will host a showing of the movie Fatima, which tells the story of an Algerian woman living in France with her two daughters. The film will show at 5:30 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2019. This 2015 French production premiered in Brazil in 2017, with distribution by Imovision. It was co-written and directed by Philippe Faucon as an adaptation of two books by Fatima Elayoubi – who also shares script credits: “Prière à la Lune” and “Enfin, je peux marcher seule” (‘Prayer to the Moon’ and ‘Finally I can walk alone’).
Fatima (Soria Zeroual) is an Algerian Muslim driven away from her native town by war who relocates to Lion, France. Divorced and the mother of two teenage girls, Nesrine (Zita Hanrot), who’s 18 and going into medical school, and the rebellious 15-year-old Souad (Kenza Noah Aïche), Fatima is bent on having her daughters go to school so they will have a chance at a better life. She works as a maid and doesn’t speak French well, and this makes it hard for her to communicate with her kids. Fatima eventually falls of a staircase, and during recovery, she takes the time to write down – in Arabic – everything she was unable to say to her daughters in French.
This 79-minute drama will be shown at the Sesc São Carlos theater. Up to two tickets will be available per person at the venue one hour prior to the session. The theater has 269 seats and the movie is rated 10 and older.
