Rio de Janeiro – Between July 2017 and June 2018, five new Brazilian products have been awarded certificates of origin, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said. The certifications are issued by the National Industrial Property Institute (INPI) for goods with unique features that are native to specific geographical areas.
The certificates are requested by exporters, and importers rely on them as proof of origin. Certified items are eligible for tax breaks or waivers provided for in international trade agreements.
There are currently 58 certified goods and services in Brazil. The newly certified goods are: cassava flour from Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), guaraná from Maués (AM) (pictured above), cheese from Colônia Witmarsum (PR), cocoa almonds from southern Bahia and socol (pork loin sausage) from Venda Nova do Imigrante (ES).
