São Paulo – The Palestinian ambassador to Brazil, Ibrahim Al Zeben, visited the state of Santa Catarina last Friday (10th) and met with the governor, Raimundo Colombo, and the mayor of the state capital Florianópolis, Dário Berger. During the meeting with Zeben, the governor claimed that the state may do business with Palestine in the future. With the mayor of Florianópolis, the ambassador discussed the possibility of the city becoming a sister city of a Palestinian municipality.
The governor of Santa Catarina said the state is willing to discuss partnerships with the Palestinians. “This exchange of ideas is very important to interaction between different people,” he stated. The ambassador claimed that he hopes to do business with local entrepreneurs in the future: “Our state is in a special situation, but we are seeking economic and commercial partners to aid in our development,” he said.
During his meeting with the mayor Florianópolis, Dário Berger, Zeben expressed his will for the state capital to become a sister city with a Palestinian city. The cities being considered are Bethlehem and Ramallah. Berger committed to carrying out studies on the matter to then sign a protocol of intentions to select the sister city. He asserted that initiatives of this type promote unity between people.
